one thing that has always bothered me is how people like to equate sexual orientation with What Turns You On, like those things depend on each other. Like… no! That’s not how it works! because eroticism is beyond gender! Storms turn people on. Sweat turns people on. Energy, friction, mirrors, leather and latex, pain, frustration, pressure, emotional intensity – all of these things can be incredibly erotic, and that has literally nothing to do with your sexual orientation. And i think THAT’S what people are trying to say when they say “sexuality is fluid” – when really your sexual orientation isn’t fluid. It might be, its certainly malleable over time because literally everything about anyone’s identity is, humans are capable of change by design, but not malleable enough to be considered fluid.
What IS fluid is eroticism. That’s why many lesbians were into gay male porn before they were into anything else. That’s why furries and monster fuckers and xenophiles and people into oviposition exist. That’s why we use nature as vivid metaphors, everything from dewy petals to the all encompassing strength of ocean tides. That’s why orgies with people you wouldn’t usually fuck can be still be hot. It’s the fantasy, the emotion, the implication, the aesthetic. And your eroticism doesn’t inform your sexual orientation – because your eroticism is, for most people, pretty fluid.
